Title IX of the Educational Amendments
On this date, President Richard M. Nixon signed Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, which prohibited discrimination in educational programs and activities receiving federal funds.


Civil Rights Act of 1964
On this date, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to enforce the constitutional right to vote and to prohibit discrimination in public accommodations, including education and other federally assisted programs.


Independence Day
Declaration of Independence adopted by the Second Continental Congress in 1776. Legal holiday in all states and territories and a federal holiday designated by statute.

The five-part series, featuring Jay McTighe, offers school or dis­trict teams an opportunity to learn to use the Com­mon Core to rethink and build cur­ricu­lum and per­for­mance assess­ments that will increase stu­dent achieve­ment by cre­at­ing tasks that are rel­e­vant, inter­est­ing, mean­ing­ful and useful. Americans with Disabilities Act Anniversary
