What is RSS?

By signing up for an RSS feed on a particular website, you will be automatically alerted when something new is posted to the site, instead of having to visit the site to browse for new information. (RSS can stand for Really Simple Syndication, Rich Site Summary, or RDF Site Summary.)

RSS feeds are free. RSS is an XML-based format. The Department of Public Instruction currently uses RSS 2.0.

How Do I Start Using RSS?

You need to begin using an RSS reader (also known as a news reader, aggregator, feed reader, feed aggregator, or search aggregator). An RSS reader aggregates and displays all the feeds you sign up for on different websites. E-mail applications often feature built-in RSS readers, while other readers are available on-line, many free of charge.

Next, follow your RSS reader’s instructions to subscribe to the content feeds you want—typically a simple process.
