There needs to consensus that part of the school’s job is to help children develop as good citizens. Under the leadership of the principal, staff must see this as a piece of their responsibility. The commitment can be made public in the form of a vision or mission statement or be part of school goals. Standards of the heart are most often embraced at the elementary and middle level, and less evident in high schools. Yet student behavior is a concern for educators at all levels.
 
Examples of vision statements, goals that show a committment to character:

Do your school goals include helping students become caring, contributing, productive and responsible citizens?
Type in excerpts from your school mission statement and/or goals that relate to Standards of the Heart.
